Position Title:  Health and Safety Manager

Location: Newberry Springs, CA & Hesperia, CA

Reports To: VP, Operations

Company Description: 5E Boron Americas, LLC (5E BA), formerly known as Fort Cady (California) Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of 5E Advanced Materials, Inc. (5E). 5E BA’s corporate office and team is located in Hesperia, CA and the project site is located in Newberry Springs, CA. 5E BA’s Borate Mine hosts a multi-generational Borate resource where boric acid will be produced for the large North American specialty chemicals market including high-end technologies such as electric vehicles, defense, and magnets. The Fort Cady project site is an exceptionally rare and large colemanite deposit.

Purpose: The Health and Safety Manager position is responsible for managing and maintaining the safety program developed for 5E and to train and orient employees and vendors when working with 5E.

Position Summary: The Health and Safety Manager plans and manages general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the Company.  The focus will be the safe execution of work.  This begins during the bidding process and through execution.  For employees of 5E this will be training and working towards the goal of zero incidents on site.  5E is focused on building a world class safety program and culture.  The safety manager will be key in the execution of this.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies
  • Designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards
  • Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment
  • Studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences
  • Facilitate Workers’ Compensation process with diligence
  • Work/worksite audits
  • Responsible for detailed construction workplan reviews
  • Maintains the OSHA occupational injury and illness recordkeeping
  • RFP/RFQ reviews
  • Assist with contractor analysis and onboarding

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Health and Safety experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in safety and environmental management is required
  • Chemical Process Safety Management and Risk Management experience preferred
  • Ability to work with project and operations safety plans preferred
  • OSHA 30 or better
  • OSHA 1910 and 1926 preferred
  • Familiar with Behavior Based Safety Methods preferred
